I recently was lucky enough to receive the PupRug Faux Fur Orthopedic Dog Bed from Paw for my Cockapoo Cody to try. I will share my experience with you in this post, starting with unboxing and ending with my (and Cody’s!) final verdict.

If you are not familiar with Paw, this company makes dog beds that are designed to look like real fur rugs. Basically, they are supposed to be equally luxurious for both your pet and you. You can learn more about Paw in this post, where I shared overviews of 5 Paw dog beds, including this one.

Unboxing the PupRug Faux Fur Orthopedic Dog Bed

Unpacking the Puprug Faux Dog Bed

I received this orthopedic dog bed from Paw after reaching out to the company directly. I was impressed with what I saw about their products, and I wanted to test them myself. In return, they sent me the PupRug Faux Fur Dog Bed along with the PupProtector waterproof dog blanket.

The product arrived in a blue box with the Paw.com logo. Cody sniffed the box curiously as I opened it. Although I received the Small/Medium-sized bed, I remember thinking, “Wow, it fits in this box?”

When I got it open, I found the bed neatly packed inside, similar to how brands like Casper pack beds for humans. It was super easy to set it up and fit the memory foam inside the waterproof cover.

I set it up on the floor and introduced it to Cody. As you can see, he took right to it!

Size: Roomy With Space to Sprawl

Puprug plenty of room the sprawl

The PupRug Faux Fur Orthopedic Dog Bed comes in three sizes. The Small/Medium measures 40” long by 25” wide. The Large/Extra Large measures 50” long by 30” wide. Finally, the Giant measures 60” long by 35” wide.

Cody weighs 25 pounds and is a small dog. So, the 40” length and 25” width gave him plenty of room to relax and stretch out. You can see from the pictures that a medium-sized dog would also be comfortable with the amount of space on this bed. In fact, two dogs of Cody’s size could easily snuggle up on this bed together!

Materials: Durable, High-Quality Construction

Zipper protects dogs from getting at the foam

From what I can tell, the materials and construction for the PupRug seem robust. The waterproof memory foam liner closes with Velcro while you use a zipper for the faux fur bed cover. The zipper itself seems pretty sturdy, and I don't see a way that Cody could get at the Velcro.

Soft and Comfy With Excellent Support

The faux fur is incredibly soft and sumptuous! Looking at Cody enjoying his new bed, I can’t help but feel a little envious myself.

When I first took the bed out of the box, I noticed it seemed a little flat. The instructions said that was normal. I’ll admit I was a little bit anxious. But before even a day was up, the foam base had finished decompressing.

Pressing down on the surface with my hand, it seems like the human-grade memory foam provides just the right amount of give. It is soft enough to be comfortable but offers firm support for Cody's joints.

I am also pleased to report that it does indeed return to its original shape after Cody gets up from the mattress. Paw guarantees their mattresses will not flatten for a decade. Obviously, I have not had the chance to put that guarantee to the full test. But based on my experiences so far, I can believe it!

Easy to Clean

I'm lucky that the version of this bed that I got—white with the "Curve" edge shape—is a pretty close match to Cody's hair. So, it won't be too obvious when he sheds on the bed.

I wasn't so lucky in that he tracked dirt onto the bed on his second day using it. But that allowed me to test out cleaning it.

Washing the PupRug Faux Fur Bed turned out to be ridiculously easy. I unzipped the cover and threw it on the gentle/cold setting in the washing machine. Afterward, I hung it on my clothesline and waited for it to dry.

While you can’t wash the mattress itself, you can wipe it down with a damp cloth if you need to. You shouldn’t need to worry about the core getting stained since there is a waterproof liner.

I was worried that the fur would come out matted after the wash, but it was fine! I did notice it shed a little, however. I don’t think it will be too big a concern, but I will keep an eye on it in the future.

Oh, and did I mention that this dog bed has a non-slip rubber bottom? This is great if your pet likes to come bounding onto the bed and you have it sitting on hardwood or tile.

Aesthetics

Puprug curvy white beds blends in good with your home decor

I absolutely love how this dog bed makes my home look more luxurious! The wavy edges and the white fur pass for a real fur pelt. Even if I didn't have a dog, I would want this on my floor!

You can also get this dog bed with straight edges. A variety of other colors and designs are available as well.

Cost and Value

At the time of this writing, the PupRug Faux Fur Orthopedic Dog Bed sells for $149.00 (the full price listed is $213, but it is 30% off). Paw also offers a 10% off coupon after signing up for email updates.

I would say this is pretty well in line with the typical price range for high-quality orthopedic dog beds. In fact, even if you purchase it at full price, it is still less expensive than some competing products.

Given this dog bed's durability, support, comfort, and beautiful appearance, it offers an excellent bang for your buck.

Warranty

While the company does not mention the word "warranty" specifically, Paw.com stands behind its claim that its mattresses won't flatten for 10 years.

The FAQ says, “We offer a ten-year guarantee against flattening for all of our memory foam mattresses. If you experience any flattening of the bed foam within that time, please send a photo to [email protected] with a photo of the flattened foam for quality assurance purposes.”

What We Like

  • The faux fur is super soft and the mattress provides comfortable support
  • The waterproof liner and machine-washable cover make for fast and easy cleanups.
  • The faux fur's shape, color, and texture are convincing; the dog bed really does look like a real fur pelt, adding a touch of luxury to your home décor..
  • Every bed component is sturdy and well-made and should last a long time.
  • The non-skid bottom keeps the bed from sliding around on hardwood and helps prevent slips and falls.
  • The bed is affordable, especially considering its quality.
  • Paw backs the mattress with a 10-year guarantee.

Keep in Mind

  • The fur can shed a bit in the wash. If this becomes a problem, I will switch to hand-washing the cover.
  • I did catch Cody chewing on the fur a little. Thankfully, he is not an aggressive chewer. But I can imagine for a dog that is, the fur could be a little too tempting

Final Verdict

I was excited to get a chance to try the PupRug Faux Fur Orthopedic Dog Bed. From the moment I opened the box and saw the care and attention that went into packing, I knew I was looking at a quality product.

Setting up the dog bed was fast and easy, and I love how it enhanced my home décor. Cleaning it is a breeze, and I feel confident that it will stand the test of time.

But most importantly, my dog adores his new bed! Since Cody has given it his paw-stamp of approval, I am more than happy to give it mine.
